Back in the days of Nokia 3310, few individuals that owned a mobile phone had very little issues with their phone batteries, I really don't know why that now technology has advanced so much OEM's produce a smartphone with a wow specs but with a very little battery juice to be powering the device. Today, I'm going to share with us, some simple but proven tips which when applied, will make us enjoy our precious phones for few more hour(s) before the battery runs out completely.
- Use black/static wallpapers: If your phone has an AMOLED screen, use a dark-colored background because AMOLED screens only illuminate the colored pixels (like most Samsung devices).
- Doze: With the arrival of Android 6.0, a new feature called Doze was also made available, this feature also helps you get more out of your device's battery life. This feature enabled by default and essentially allows your device to enter hibernation mode when it has been unused for a specific period of time.
- Use a shorter screen timeout: Set your phone's display screen timeout to shorter time as as the usage fits you most. Just think, if your screen timeout is set to a minute, it'll use four times more power than if it were set to 15 seconds. Like me, I prefer 15 seconds or 30 seconds at most.
- Turn off vibration and haptic feedback: Personally I turn of these 2 features unless I really need that awareness. Haptic feedback is that buzz that feels like a slight vibration you get from typing on the keyboard or pressing the 3 screen buttons (Menu, Back and Home)
5. Your Smartphone Doesn't Have to be Smart All the Time: most smartphone users are always hands on buttons with the devices. It sure feels nice and good to be online texting a few friends, colleagues, lover etc, but it won't hurt to leave your phone and give it a break, try out new things with your phone that doesn't require you to be accessing the internet, you don't need to be online 24/7
6. Turn off Wireless Connections: When not in use of your connections, it is important to turn off those connections like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Data connection, etc
7. Turn off Auto-Sync: If you don't need every single Google account updated every 15 minutes, just go into Settings and Account & Sync and turn off auto-sync for those apps you don't need constantly updated. Some apps like Yahoo and Gmail lets you manually refresh when you launch them,
rather than multiple times throughout the day when you may not need them
to. The same goes for Twitter, Instagram and co. Unless you need constant
updates or push notifications (like for Facebook or your calendar) just
sync when you actually use the app.
8. Don't be so Mobile obsessed: This may come as a surprise to you, but trust me, screen is the biggest battery
sucker on any Android device, not turning your phone on as much is the best
thing you can do for your battery. I'm not saying to never check your phone NO, but do
you really need to check it every 10 minutes? Probably not. So try to
exercise a little restraint throughout the day and watch your battery
life last a couple or hours more.
9. Don't Always Use 3G: Personally, when my need for use of internet is to simply stay connected on social platforms like Whatsapp, Facebook, Twitter etc, I simply set my Network mode to Edge. I only use High-Speed connection mods like H+ or 4G when I want files to download. Then I turn off these connections once the downloads are completed successfully.
10. Switch off your Phone at Night: I normally switch off my phone at night before going to bed with an intention of reserving it's juice for another day. In some cases, I simply switch them to Flight Mode or Airplane Mode so that I can easily check the time if the need arises during the course of the night.
I am sure that after that after applying these simple tips listed above, you'll notice a significant increase in the number or hours your battery runs out.
