We all need a little help, a little assistance every now and then to get some things done. And Google has taken that assistance we all need to a whole new digital level. Google has taken on Amazon's Alexa, Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana, and Even Nokia's MIKA to bring its own voice assistant called Google Assistant.
Google first unveiled its Assistant at the Google I/O in May 2016. The assistant was first seen on mobile devices with Google Pixel and Pixel XL. It was later brought to Google Home and Android Wear 2.0. Now it's all set for a wider roll-out to all Marshmallow and Nougat devices, which is surely a fulfilled promise made by Google.
Besides from being a Nougat or Marshmallow powered device, Google has also mapped out another requirement which must be met to have Google Assistance. A statement from Google's blog reads “Android smartphones running on Nougat and Marshmallow also must have at least 1.5GB of RAM, and a 720p resolution display to get Assistant’s new features.”
Google Assistance won't be rolling out to all countries at once. It will be first seen in English speaking countries like The USA, Australia, Canada and The United Kingdom, after which Germany comes next. The Google Assistant will automatically come to all eligible Android smartphones through an update via Google Play Services. More languages will be added as time goes on.
Users will be able to access the Google Assistant just by saying “Ok Google” or just long press on the Home button to perform tasks including translation, get directions and much more.
