Gizmos are really taking up every human activity there is. They are really all about making life easy and stress-free for all of us, but the disadvantage is that it promotes laziness. Don't get me wrong, I am all about having the world on the palms of my hand but the side effects shouldn't be ignored as well. With that being said, Google Pay was a few months ago, integrated with PayPal, then just some weeks ago, Microsoft partnered with Paypal, and as a result of that partnership, Skype users can now send and receive money while chatting on Skype. And now, there are rumors that world's most popular instant messaging app, WhatsApp will soon support the same feature of sending and receiving the money. But before that Apple's iPhone users can use Siri to send and receive funds in real-time.
Yes, it might sound like news or rumor to you, but the fact that iPhone users can now send and receive funds, because Siri lets you send money using your voice with apps such as Venmo, PayPal, and Square Cash. However, there's a little bit of configuration required to get started, but anyone can do it. You can use it to easily send money to your friends and family and here is an easy guide on how to set it up.
1. First off, you'll need to pick your app of choice and for now, Venmo, PayPal, and Square Cash are some of the more popular options. (For the purpose of this tutorial, I will be using Venmo)
2. Now, all the app an access to your contacts. To do that, tap the icon on the top left of the app ==>> tap on Settings ==>> tap Privacy and Sharing then toggle Facebook Friends, WhatsApp and Phone Contacts. (or any other app you are presented with).
Note: The purpose of you giving the app access to your contacts is to let Siri know who you are trying to send money to when you speak a name.
3. Now you have to configure Siri and to do that, go to your iPhone's Settings ==>> Tap "Siri & Search." ==>> Scroll to Venmo and open it. ==>> Toggle the “Use with Siri”
4. The last part is to tell to Siri to send money to whoever you want. All you have to do is to say “Hey Siri, send (contact name) (amount)”. For instance, Hey Siri “Send mom $100”. Assuming you have a contact in your phone saved with mom, Siri will automatically carry out the task of sending $100 to mom for you.
Also, you may be asked to put a little description for the transaction you are about to perform before it will be carried out. Then type in anything you want, it could be “Hey mom, just take this for your groceries”
Another thing to note is that once the first transaction is successfully done, the configuration you used will be saved, so next time you wish to send money to someone else, just tell Siri to do that for you by saying “Hey Siri, send (contact name) (amount)”.
So that is how you can send money with your iPhone using Siri. What do you think guys? is it cool, or is it too much, or just a waste of time and resources by Apple? Let's hear your say.
