Introducing Librem 5, An Open Source Linux-Powered Smartphone

Android, iPhone, Windows etc are all great and wonderful mobile OS, but do we really all that drama that comes with it? For instance, iPhone is so air-tight that you an iPhone user can't get apps anywhere other than the Apple Store. Android is so vulnerable that it easily gets exploited and users get hacked. And Windows?, well I don't really know where to classify it. But the questions is, do we need all the drama? Then Purism, the company known for creating laptops which are focused on security and privacy says No. And as a result of that, we get to enjoy Librem 5, an Open Source Linux-Powered Smartphone that is made with Security & Privacy being number 1 on the agenda.

However, there have been several smartphones which were made to be highly secured more than the regular smartphone, and the include the like of Blackphone, Zenphone, Turing Phone, Granite Phone, Blackberry Dtek 50 and so on. But the sad truth is that a good number of these phones failed to make the impact in the smartphone industry. But presently, Purism, the company known for creating laptops which are focused on security and privacy and I have a good feeling that this one (Librem 5) has come to stay.

Todd Weaver, Founder & CEO of Purism, in an article that was published on the company's website, said: “I believe digital rights should mirror physical rights, our Librem 5 phone will get humanity closer to that goal.” Librem 5 is “built to protect you by default. It will never exploit you for profit. It will be a phone for the people, by the people.” With that in mind, let give you a quick rundown of Librem 5 Linux smartphone features and specs
