Yesterday was indeed a memorable one as Apple Inc. unveiled a new range of its smartphone called iPhone X which joins the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus in Apple's all-new iPhone line-up. Here on techvillz.com, is everything you need to know about the newly launched device including the release date, review of its specs, price and new features. And if you are wondering why this phone is called iPhone X, this article will explain that too.
Why is it Called iPhone X?
This phone is actually pronounced iPhone 10 (the number 10 is represented by letter X in the Roman Numeral in the same way that Mac OS X used to). This was all because 2017 marks 10 years Apple has been in commission of making iPhones after the very first iPhone launched at Macworld Expo in 2007. So technically, this is a sort of special, celebratory anniversary iPhone.
iPhone X Design Review
The iPhone X is forged with glass and stainless steel and will be available in Silver or Space Grey. Just like iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, iPhone X is dust and water proof.
The iPhone X really look stunning like a gorgeous lady in a red dress with its Edge-to-edge display, an OLED display that stretches across the entire front of the smartphone for an edge-to-edge finish. Apple dubbed the display “Super Retina” and it diagonally measures 5.8inch
The Screen of iPhone X has a million-to-one contrast ratio and supports a huge range of colours and there is also HDR that supports Dolby Vision and HDR10. It also has a feature called True Tone for the display which means that that the device will adjust the white balance to match the surrounding light.
No More Home Button
In other to achieve a perfect edge-to-edge, Apple removed the traditional home button of iPhones and a redesigned iOS 11 has been put in place to replace the functions of the Home button. So in other to wake the iPhone X, just raise the device or double-tap on the screen. And to go back to the Home screen, just swipe up from the bottom. Swiping up and pausing before letting go will open the multitasking screen, and pressing and holding the side button will launch Siri.
Face ID is Used to Unlock the Phone
To unlock the iPhone X, one can use the new Face ID feature. But to be frank, users are very much concerned about how this is going to work in practice. No one wants this to turn out like the new Samsung Galaxy Note8 that can be unlocked with any picture.
However, Apple has promised that it'll just work, but when Apple's Craig Federighi tried it in the live demo it didn't work quite well so he had to go to his backup iPhone X because the first one didn't recognize his face properly. The backup iPhone X worked brilliantly though, and it sounds like Apple has used some serious tech to make sure that Face ID doesn't recognize photos or masks so that it won't turn out like that of Samsung Galaxy Note8 that can be unlocked with any picture.
The iPhone X has no touch or fingerprint sensor as Apple claims facial recognition is more convenient and faster. Apple claims that face ID gives each iPhone X a one in a million chance of someone being able to access your phone, rather than one in 50,000 for the Touch ID. Face ID will also be used in Apple Pay and access to secure apps.
More Fun With Animoji
Animoji means Animated Emoji and this comes new in the iPhone X. It lets a user make an emoji come to life with your own expressions. And You'll then be able to send your Animoji that you've created to your friends and family via iMessage.
iPhone X Spec Review
The iPhone X is indeed a powerful smartphone that is powered by an A11 Bionic chip. It has a six-core CPU design which Apple claims is the smartest and most powerful chips ever seen in a smartphone. It works with the Apple-designed GPU, which has three cores and is capable of powering AR at 60fps, as well as enabling new machine learning and 3D games.
The iPhone X has a 12Mp dual-lens set-up, which offers optical image stabilization. One has an aperture of f/1.8, and the other f/2.4. It's paired with a new quad LED True Tone Flash with Slow Sync, which is designed to offer a more natural light.
On the front is a 7Mp camera which Apple has situated in front for an accurate face ID, but the camera can also come in handy in taking great selfie and wefie. The TrueDepth camera is made up of a dot projector, infrared camera and flood illuminator for advanced face mapping.
The iPhone X will run iOS 11, which is set to become available for other iPhones on September 19th. The battery as Apple claims is going to last 2 hours longer than the iPhone 7. The iPhone X can charge wirelessly, with Apple's Airpower which will be launched in 2018. Apple has also made a new charging mat which has room for the Apple Watch Series 3 and your AirPods.
