Samsung’s name is now on the list of big companies that will pay money to security researchers (Bug bounty hunters) who point out vulnerabilities in their products. I am sure that this is a good response by Samsung because Galaxy Note7 really did a number on their name. And now the recent facial recognition failure of Galaxy Note8 just landed a huge blow to the standard of their product.
The South Korean tech giant announced the launch of the bug bounty program yesterday in a blog post published on the company's website. Just as the suggests, developers or any individual who discover and reveal with concrete proof, any bug or security loopholes in Samsung’s range of mobile devices, mostly running the Android operating system, will be rewarded with a cash price $200,000.
As of the time of writing this article, there are already 38 Samsung mobile devices which run Android OS. They include Galaxy S series, Note Series, A Series, J Series, and Tab series. And all these devices are covered under the Samsung bug bounty program.
Also, there is some software which is included in the bug bounty program and they included, Samsung's voice assistant Bixby, Samsung Pay, Samsung Pass, etc. The little catch there is that for each device to be eligible, it must be running the latest available Android version and firmware.
This bounty bug hunting is an and effective immediately, any interested persons should visit Samsung Mobile Security Webpage for more info and get started
