“We understand that Internet has become a basic necessity for doing business and interacting with other people daily. That is why this partnership with Telkom is an important step towards improving our customer experience.” These are the words of the MD of MultiChoice - Kenya, during the announcement of MultiChoice (DStv) partnership with Telkom to Introduce free 30GB Data+Mifi Router. And with that, I can safely and boldly say that TStv is really making these guys highly uncomfortable.
TStv is the first Pay as you watch-TV network in the country to introduce pay as you watch and Internet-based pricing model and it's expected to fully go into commercial sale and transmission on the 1st of next month. The masses have accepted them with both hands and are eagerly anticipating to get and own the decoder in their houses. The 30GB data from DStv and the 20GB data from TStv both can be used via WiFi Tethering and several devices like mobile phones, laptops tablets, etc can be connected simultaneously.
This recent competition amidst satellite television networks is exactly what the masses (customers) wants and it also makes market interesting. Several cable tv networks did well to revisit several of their current plans and added a few features to it so as to entice and keep their customers. For instance, GOtv introduced GOtv Max, Startimes introduced daily and weekly subscription plans while Kwesé TV just officially launched in Nigeria with pay per view subscription and over 65 channels.
When Will DStv 30GB Data be Available?
Multichoice in their own advert they called DSTV Na Net', customers purchasing a full DSTV HD decoder will get a free Mifi-router preloaded with 30GB Data from Telkom. But for now, this service is only available in Kenya and MultiChoice plans to extend it to several other African Sovereign states of which Nigeria won't be left out.
