Earlier this week, a security research firm that works out of Vietnam revealed how the $1000 newly launched iPhone X was fooled by a $150 3D mask. Now a 10-year-old kid has used his face to unlocked her mom's iPhone X in seconds. This was the same phone that Apple was keen to say during the launch of the iPhone X that Face ID is a much better security system than Touch ID and has an incredibly low error rate. However, it seems that in real life this is not quite what happens.
Apple disclosed that iPhone X's face ID uses an advanced facial recognition technology, which can’t be fooled by photos or ultra-realistic masks as a matter of fact. But recent developments and revelations have proved otherwise as the iPhone X wasn't not only fooled by a maks, a 10-year-old boy managed to trick his mother’s iPhone X using his face.
The duo took it upon themselves to do a 41 seconds video of the event and share it on YouTube. According to the father of the 10-year-old, he stated in a Linkedin post that the TrueDepth camera’s depth map of my wife’s face, which was created by projecting and analyzing over 30,000 dots, wasn’t accurate enough as it worked with my 10-year-old son.
Recent events of Apple's iPhone X failing to live up to expectation in regards to FaceID is a big flaw and isn't welcomed for a thousand dollar smartphone.
