I know you must be asking what the heck is “files go”? To answer your question in plain, short and simple terms, Files Go is Google’s New Android File Manager And Sharing App. According to Google, the app which has a similar function to Apple's Airdrop, will help users transfer files to other contacts without using up mobile data.
Furthermore, Files Go will also be a “smart storage manager” that allows users to share, manage and delete files. The app will be available to for devices that are running Android 5.0 upwards and will not only be used as a files manager but will also serve as a utility app that can be used to utilize and free up storage space.
Files Go is not yet officially unreleased by Google but it was earlier posted on Google Play by mistake and was spotted by 9to5Google, Android enthusiasts were quick to spot the same and share it on websites like APKMirror. The Files Go app is a simple file manager that aims to help you take care of the files stored on your phone and tell you about which files are taking up most of the space. Due to the word Go in the name, it’s also being speculated that Files Go might be a part of Google’s Android Go initiative.
Besides managing your files and telling wich apps that need to be removed to save storage space, Files Go also has a feature that allows or permits file sharing directly to nearby friends using Bluetooth and it works in similar just like the same file sharing apps we've already seen.
To use the app, both sender and receiver need to have the app installed and opened on their devices, then use the Send and Receive file option. The users can also find this option to send the file while sharing a file from Files Go.
Verdict:
I personally do not see the need for Google to populate the Android apps market with an app like Files Go. There are tons of third-party apps that can do similar tasks like the ones listed in the app's description. I really hope that this app's story wouldn't be like that of Google Allo that performed so well at launch but didn't perform so well anymore barely 1 month after launch.
