I believe that Linux wouldn't be a good OS if it didn't have a common ground with Windows OS or other PC operating systems in the world. This was why Lindows was made initially, to make using of Microsoft Windows applications on Linux machines to be much easier.
Lindows based its Windows compatibility on Wine API. Then, it developed program named CNR to serve as a GUI-based means to download/install applications. Later, Microsoft sued Lindows, Inc. and the case was settled after the Lindows trademark was transferred to Microsoft, changing the name to Linspire.
Now after a decade of silence, after a decade since last Linspire version was released, a new version is here. Actually, PC/OpenSystems LLC, which takes care of the development of Black Lab Linux, has acquired the Linspire trademarks.
Linspire 6.0 and Freespire 3.0: Commercial and Free releases
Though the new release - Linspire 6.0, remains a commercial product just like the earlier versions, it doesn’t carry forward the older code. The new release is derived from Ubuntu and includes various software like:
1. VLC
2. Chrome
3. Wine, etc.
It is an LTS release, which will remain supported until 2025. It also comes with a 12-months email and phone support. The other services offered with the license are custom ISO generation, on-site setup, free upgrade, 10% off on hardware purchases, etc. In case you’re willing to use reincarnated Lindows without spending a penny, there’s another option as well.
