You can recall that towards the end of 2017, Apple accepted openly that they been slowing down iPhones with older batteries to enable them to cope with the changes that are coming. Apple did this with good intents but the masses didn't take it too well so they promised to bring a solution that will remedy the situation in the coming updates. Now in line with the promises made by Apple, the company has started rolling out the new Battery Health feature in their latest iOS 11.3 Beta 2.
The new feature is available on all iPhones released after iPhone 6 which isn't surprising at all because, according to Apple, performance management has been enabled on iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus devices.
To access the new battery health feature, you need to navigate to Settings >>> Battery >>> Battery Health (Beta). You can as well follow this guide to enable or disable the Battery Health feature.
From here, you’ll be able to see information regarding your max battery capacity and performance of your iPhone. And if everything’s fine and your battery’s capacity is full, you’ll see this message: “Your battery is currently supporting normal peak performance.”

So How Does The New Performance Management Feature Actually Work?
At this point, it is very much important to remind you that after installing the new iOS 11.3 Beta 2, the performance management feature, which can also be referred to as iPhone slowdown feature, will be inactive by default. However, in any case, your phone suffers a sudden shutdown, the slowdown feature will automatically be enabled so as to prevent such situations in future.
Then one thing leading to another and your phone suffered an unexpected shutdown, the performance management features would have been applied and by now It’ll also show a measure of your battery capacity, which is usually lower than 100%, around 90-98%.
But if after the shutdown your iPhone's battery was drastically depleted, Apple will automatically show you a notification/recommendation to visit the nearest iPhone shop.
In fewer cases, users might see a Battery Health Unknown message due to improper installation or several other unknown issues. Again, to solve this, you’re recommended to visit service center.
So these are the different ways the new iOS 11.3 new battery health feature works, also note that you can always tap on the highlighted blue link to see more details about the current battery problem of your iPhone.
You also get the option to disable this battery health feature, prevent iPhone slowdown and get the maximum performance. But the cash is that if you choose to ignore the battery replacement advice, the chances of a sudden shutdown are still imminent.
