Apple's Newly Launched Families Page Puts All Parental Control Tools in one Place

Apple is really doing well to keep the promises they made to parents and guardians in January, that they would introduce new features that will enable them to take control and monitor their kids/ward's phones. This promise was also made in Apple's response towards iPhone addiction among youths.

The move to introduce handy new parental control settings came after 2 of Apple's stakeholders published an open letter to address what is seen as a “growing public health crisis” of smartphone addiction in young people. Now, to in line with the fulfillment of their promises, Apple now has a new page on their official website called Apple Families.

The new page collects information about the company’s family features and parental controls in one place. The new Apple parental control page also has some features like

1.    Ask To Buy tool -  that lets parents approve or decline app purchases from their device.

2.   An app Management Feature - that lets users automatically block in-app purchases automatically.

3.   Find My Friends - track locations and issue alerts when children leave or arrive somewhere.

4.   Parental Guidance - an option to limit adult content on kids’ devices and restrict browsing to only pre-approved websites.

Apples new family page also highlights several features like health, privacy, and family sharing options, though I can't say that these are new, indeed, the new page sure pulls all of Apple’s safety and privacy features into one place!

Apple during the introduction of the page states “We’re continually designing new features to help make sure kids use them in the ways you want,”

The big G (Google) already have something similar to this for almost 1 year now and they call it Google Family Link - which allows parents to make old Android devices kid-friendly.

Digital safety remains as important as ever especially where the minors are, — in January, Google deleted about 60 games from its Play Store after a malicious bug that displayed porn ads in game apps were discovered, many of which games were aimed at children.
