Linux Mint 18.1 (Code Name Serena) Is Now Available For Download

Sometime Ago I got tired of my Kali Linux and wanted something else with a different feel and look, so I decided to try out other Linux Distros with Ubuntu or Zorin OS in mind, but in the course of getting a new distro for my machine, I learnt that Linux Mint 18.1 will be available in December, so I decided to wait for it in lieu of downloading version 18, which was codenamed, Sarah. Over the weekend, the team behind Linux Mint took it to their website to announce officially, the release of the so much anticipated Linux Mint 18.1 which is codenamed, Serena.

1.    New Screensaver:    The screensaver in Cinnamon 3.2 has been redesigned. Not that only does it now looks really better, it's also much faster, more responsive and more customizable than the previous versions. The new screensaver also displays the number of missed notifications, but not their contents, for privacy reasons.

2.    Improved Hardware Support:    Cinnamon 3.2 features the support of iio-sensor-proxy. On computers equipped with compatible accelerometers, is able to auto-rotate in response to the orientation changes. In addition to "Synaptics," there is also support for the new "libinput" touchpad and input driver.

3.    Vertical Panel:    The Cinnamon 3.2 supports vertical panels, so you can now place panels on the side of your screen. The new vertical panel support in Linux Mint 18.1 is really necessary and would come in handy for applet developers, it, however, depends on each applet to define whether or not it can be shown vertically, and as well as how to do so.
