One of the things that I dislike about Google is that they do not always give much of options. Let's take for example the Google search, If you live in Los Angeles but you wanted to search for something specific in Australia, all you had to do was go to google.com.au and then search. But apparently, Google thinks that it’s more important now to get results based on where you actually are.
Now, Google has updated how they label country services for both apps, mobile web, and desktop searches. By default, your results will be based not on the URL but on where you are located. Meaning that you can't be in Nigeria and get search results from a US-based website or blog. According to Google, these changes were made so as to always display relevant and accurate results based on the keyword the user is searching for.
Before now, anybody that pulls up Google.com will just make any search they want irrespective of their current location. Information and search were accessed through ccTLD or country code top-level domain names. But now, you don’t even have to do that as whatever you search for will be based on where your location is, regardless of the domain you’re searching from.
How Do I Get Google Search Results That Isn't Based on My Location?
It'd be very uneasy for a good number of internet users if this little changes by Google didn't come with a backdoor. Despite these recent changes, you can make a Google search and get results that aren't based on your location by,
1. Go to the search settings menu at the bottom right, and then choose a new location in the Region for Search Results section.
2. An alternative method is to always use a VPN. If you are a blogger, you'd be surprised with the kind of results you'll get when you make a Google search of How to grow blog traffic with a VPN set to UK or Canada
