Samsung Galaxy Can Also be Used as Linux Desktops - Here is How

When I first heard that Samsung’s latest Android phones can also be used as Linux desktops, I began to wonder what in the name of technology are these guys talking about. How can it be possible for Galaxy phones to run Linux, then after giving it a much thought, I remembered that the South Korean's latest duo flagship was launched with an exceptional feature they call Samsung DeX.

Which is a new system that allows you to connect your phone to an external peripheral like display unit, mouse, keyboard, etc and then use your phone like a desktop.
Samsung DeX Linux on Galaxy
Up till now, the Samsung DeX docking station can and is only used to run Android apps in a desktop-like environment. But soon you’ll be able to run a full-fledged Linux operating system, thanks to Samsung Linux on Galaxy which is an app Samsung is developing. It will let you load a DeX-compatible Linux environment. In other words, your Android phone could also be your GNU/Linux desktop PC.

However, it is important to note that before now, developers have employed several means and methods to load Linux distros in Android smartphones. But Samsung's Linux on Galaxy is different in a few ways which are as follows.

1.   It will be built and supported by Samsung themselves.

2.   It is designed to work with a DeX station, which means it’s optimized for desktop usage.

3.   21st century’s top phones have processors powerful enough to run Windows 10, so they should be able to handle desktop operating systems like Ubuntu, Debian, and Fedora.

Samsung however, didn't disclose much information about Linux on Galaxy in regards to what kind of Linux distributions or applications it will support, or when it will be available. But you can sign still up to get more information when it’s available.

This new development by Samsung once it is available will first start with the newest Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, and Galaxy Note 8. There is no confirmation if or how this feature will get to previous Samsung phones as 98% of them didn't come with Samsung DeX.

And while we wait, the guys at Purism are seriously working hard to achieve Librem 5 by 2019 and I have more faith now than before as they have hit the $1.5million crowdfunding
