Detailed Specs Review of BlackBerry Motion - 4G LTE, 32GB Memory etc

Blackberry, just like Nokia made a comeback into the smartphone making in the past 2 years. There have been several phones released by the company under its new management, the Blackberry Motion which is the first blackberry phone under the new management that was released without no physical keyboard.

You can recall that one of the most significant and defining features of BlackBerry smartphones is that they all have physical keyboards (with lots of little buttons) that you can peck at with your fingers to write a message, compose an email, or perform a Google search.

The new BlackBerry Motion, which was released late last year with no physical button is now available for sales. It does not have a physical keyboard, it is a typical, rectangular touchscreen slab phone, with a 5.5-inch display and a few buttons on the side. With the regular BlackBerry logo fixated on the home button/fingerprint sensor.

Several Android enthusiasts wouldn't exactly be thrilled with the phone despite its several features, like the large 4000mah battery which is a credit for the phone. The phone uses a two-year-old processor and a completely average and mediocre camera. The design f the phone is a bit large and clunky, and it’s just not a very comfortable or enjoyable device to keep in your pocket.

But to stay on the positive side, the phone did use a 4000mAh battery which is the largest cell ever used by Blackberry and have a 32hours lifespan for a single complete charge cycle with its USB type-C quick charge 3.0.

The large battery size means the phone can handle a heavy use and it is also worth mentioning that the Blackberry Motion does not support convenient-but-slower wireless charging.

Another feature of the Blackberry Motion that is worth praising is the design and body build quality. It is a solid brick phone finished with a brushed metal frame and soft-touch rubberized back. On top of that is an IP67 water and dust resistance, so it’s safe from the elements.

With this kind of design and body finishing, there wouldn't be an immediate need of a phone casing, but the downside of having a phone with this kind of design is that it wouldn't be comfortable to hold or keep in my pocket.

Besides the impressive body design, finishing and battery size, there are a few cons in the specs of the recently released blackberry motion and they are;

The processor if you ask me are pretty much outdated, it uses a two-year-old, midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. This processor has been used in long-stamina phones before, most notably in 2016’s Motorola Moto Z Play, and in BlackBerry’s own KeyOne from last year.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor is not a fast chip, and since it powers the Blackberry Motion, it is safe to say that there will be some hiccups and lags in the performance of the phone. There might be some hesitation to open apps and stutters when scrolling. It rather disappointing to see BlackBerry (under its manufacturing partner, TCL) use such a dated chip in a phone being sold as new in 2018.

With the really excellent screen comes a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front cameras. They can both take great shots (though not that great compared to the quality of pictures delivered by several other phones in the market now.

With a large battery come with a large screen, the Blackberry motion ships 1080p screen resolution that is perfectly fitted onto a 16:9 LCD screen with adequate brightness and color reproduction. The large bezels above and below the screen make the Motion feel much larger than it should, despite the fact it is a regular 5.5 inches smartphone.

The Blackberry Motion boots Android Android 7.1.1 Nougat instead of the current Oreo version. Though several users might be slightly disappointed by this because they'd expect a phone that will boot Android 8.0 Oreo, they will take compensation knowing that Blackberry takes security very seriously just as much as Apple does, and they are always keen on pushing updates and security fixes.

Other packages that come with the Android 7.1.1 Nougat is a set new feature in pre-installed productivity apps such as the Hub unified messaging client, BBM messenger, a tasks app, and a notes app. A dashboard of upcoming appointments, unread messages, and to-dos is available with a swipe on a tab of the home screen, which is particularly useful. But the Hub still doesn’t get along all that well with Google accounts, and it lacks many modern features like smart notifications or one-click unsubscribe features.

In conclusion, the new Blackberry motion gets a credit for the Long battery life Great build quality and finishing. But should really improve on the Sluggish performance,Dated, clumsy design, Outdated software and Mediocre camera.
